20 kms, say 30 minutes, east of Tavira is San Antonio, on the River Guardiana, the border with Spain. You can easily drive over to Ayamonte, the Spanish town on the opposite bank. But much more fun is to take the fifteen minute ferry trip. There are ferries leaving all the time. Tip – check the timetable at the ticket office, so you don’t miss the last ferry back!
